Fund for Refugees

Communities and Donations

Intercoin has built applications to serve entire communities. As part of that, they help the community issue and manage their own currency.

Often, people ask “where is the money going to come from”. By this, they mean not the internal currency, but the reserve currency for which it can be exchanged. One major source can be Donations. Intercoin is gradually building applications for an ecosystem that allows people to donate directly to the people on the ground.

Refugees Fund

One major way Intercoin can make a difference is by enabling people around the world to quickly and directly crowdfund assistance to refugee populations, whether affected by wars or natural disasters, without relying on middlemen like NGOs and government agencies to do it for them:

There are refugees from crises around the world, including Yemen, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Sometimes, the refugees end up living in a diaspora for a very long time, such as the 3 million Rohingya people who were expelled from Myanmar.

Intercoin has been in touch with groups that work to raise money to help these refugees, and can help launch a unified initiative that allows people around the world to help them. We bought the domain refugees.fund as the place to launch this fund.

Here is how it works:

  1. We use our smart contracts, and launch a front-end interface at refugees.fund and in the app stores
  2. Agencies on the ground work with refugees to sign up and ensure that every refugee has at most one account, and issue certificates allowing refugees (and their families) to sign transactions through the app
  3. Our platform helps multiple agencies join into a Self-Regulatory Organization that manages certificates
  4. People around the world would be able to donate USDC, USDT, ETH and other assets to a fund
  5. The fund is distributed directly as Universal Basic Income to the refugees and their families. Their balance in the app is managed on the blockchain
  6. The agencies that work with refugees invite local vendors (food, clothing, hair salons, landlords) to accept payments from the refugees, by simply scanning a QR code.
  7. Local vendors are KYCed and added to a whitelist managed by the agencies, allowing them to periodically withdraw the payments, to subsequently pay their employees or convert them to fiat currency using any local exchange in their country.
  8. The blockchain address of each business is tagged by with tags such as “food”, “clothing”, etc. Donors can see how the money is being used by the people on the ground, with statistics showing what the average prices were in each category of spending every week, etc.

Digital Assets / Rewards

The donors can know that their donations really go to the people on the ground, while they themselves receive digital assets which are backed by “proof of donation” (rather than “proof of work” solving a useless hash problem in Bitcoin).

Donors receive “Impact Tokens” proportional to how much they donated. They also receive NFTs and Roles in the community depending on the total size of their donations, as well as the size of the donations made by people they invited. This incentivizes people to bring others in, and receive Impact Tokens and recognition based on how much they really contributed.

Roles include:

  1. Ally: Thanks to your donation, a family of five will be able to eat a nutritious meal and avoid food insecurity.

  2. Supporter: Thanks to your donation, a family will receive a prepaid smart phone to communicate with loved ones.

  3. Patron: Thanks to your donation 10 children will receive school supplies.

  4. Guardian: Thanks to your donation, a refugee can receive medical attention.

  5. Knight: Thanks to your donation, a family of five will be able to eat a nutritious meals for one months time.

  6. Champion: Thanks to your donation, a family will be provided with temporary shelter for one months time.

  7. Hero: Thanks to your donation, a mobile medical clinic can operate for one month.

  8. Legend: Thanks to your donation, a mobile medical clinic can operate for one month.

  9. Saint: Thanks to your donation, a family will be provided with temporary shelter, medical attention, nutritious meals, clothing, personal hygiene products, and a prepaid smart phone for one months time.

  10. Angel: Thanks to your donation, multiple families will be provided with temporary shelter, medical attention, nutritious meals, clothing, personal hygiene products, and a prepaid smart phone for one months time.

  11. Connector: Brought in the same level of donations as as a Patron

  12. Superconnector: Brought in the same level of donations as as a Knight

  13. Ambassador: Brought in the same level of donations as as a Hero

  14. Celebrity: Brought in at least 100 donors

College Fund

The same can be done in peacetime to sponsor promising youth. Here is an example of how students at a university can receive a recurring stipend (UBI) which they can spend around campus. The money would come from alumni of the university, who have since graduated and become financially successful. Now they want to give back to the students directly, without simply relying on the university administration to do the distribution:

Absolutely an effective way of creating a currency that helps people in the Refuge community to Survive the set backs caused by everything from natural disasters to War. Thanks for laying this out for all of us to see…how simple solutions can be very Effective.

Great way for community currencies to be effectively piloted and case studied for communities in need!

Thank you @Greg_Magarshak for taking care of the technical aspects as so many people need that. Today I’ve seen the video report that one of the charities in Africa requires additional funding for clean water as the UK Government stopped funding. I’ll be glad to share this article and arrange a meeting to discuss all details.

Actually, it sounds like a great idea not only for refugees but for any charitable organization.
I love to see so many great implementations of NFTs!

Sometimes people spontaneously understand why they don’t necessarily want to trust centralized middlemen.

Absolutely agree with you @Greg_Magarshak because I can see Intercoin as a blockchain-based platform that offers a variety of tools and technologies to facilitate community-based fundraising and transactions.
Unfortunately, not many people can understand that Intercoin’s technologies can be leveraged to create a transparent fund for refugees, which can help everyone to see that money is really used to provide much-needed support and resources to individuals and families who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or natural disasters like earthquake or tsunami.

Therefore, I’ll aim to elaborate here on some ways in which Intercoin’s technologies could be used to create a fund for refugees:

  1. Tokenization: Intercoin’s tokenization technology can be used to create a unique digital token that represents the value of the fund. This token can then be used to facilitate transactions within the fund, such as donations and disbursements. By using a token, the fund can be easily tracked and audited, and donors can see exactly how their contributions are being used.
  2. Community support: Intercoin’s community support features can be used to mobilize support for the fund. This includes features such as crowdfunding campaigns, social media outreach, and online forums for discussion and collaboration. By leveraging these tools, the fund can gain momentum and attract a wider range of supporters.
  3. Smart contracts: Intercoin’s smart contract technology can be used to automate certain processes within the fund, such as disbursements and reporting. This can help to reduce the administrative burden of managing the fund and ensure that resources are being allocated in an efficient and transparent manner.
  4. Decentralized governance: Intercoin’s decentralized governance model can be used to ensure that the fund is managed in a democratic and transparent way. This includes features such as voting mechanisms, community-led decision-making, and transparent reporting. By using these tools, the fund can be managed in a way that reflects the needs and desires of the community it serves.

Overall, Intercoin’s technologies can be used to create a powerful tool for supporting refugees and displaced communities. By leveraging blockchain-based technologies, the fund can be managed in a way that is efficient, transparent, and community-led. This can help to provide much-needed resources and support to some of the most vulnerable populations in the world.
